The Foundation for Democratic Process (FODEP) has said George Mpombo’s decision to form a political party, which is called the People’s Democratic Party (PDP(, was welcome.

FODEP Executive Director Macdonald Chipenzi said more political parties are likely to be formed prior to 2016 tripartite elections.

Mr. Chipenzi told ZANIS in an interview that it was every Zambian’s democratic and constitutional right to form a political party and to have the freedom of association.

He however, said those forming political parties suddenly may not have an agenda and therefore might just be wasting their time and resources.

He said the survival of political parties depends on their stamina to woo supporters and be able to win elections in any given political set up.

In another development, Mr. Chipenzi has praised the political parties that participated in the Feira parliamentary by-election in Luangwa.

Mr. Chipenzi also congratulated the Patriotic Front (PF) for winning the Feira parliamentary seat.

He said it was now time to develop Feira constituency and end political rhetoric which does not benefit the electorates.

He added that Zambians were looking forward to seeing massive development not only in Feira but the rest of the country

Recently, for Zambian deputy High Commissioner to Nigeria, George Mpombo formed the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) which he says will be a bulwark against injustice, oppression and all forms of hegemonic tendencies.

In an interview, Mpombo, who is also former Defence Minister in the MMD government, said his decision to form a political party was as a result of the overwhelming support he received from all the provinces in the country.
