Soccer fans won’t interfere in Chipolopolo players’ selection

Lusaka, June 12th, ZANIS—Soccer fans have promised not to interfere with the technical bench in the selection of Zambia national soccer team players for the Sudan world cup qualifier encounter billed for this weekend at the Levy Mwanawasa stadium in Ndola.

Zambia Soccer Fans Association (ZSFA) chairman Yotam Mwanza said it was up to Coach Herve Renard to come up with a formidable squad that will propel the Chipolopolo boys to victory.

In a telephone interview with ZANIS Sports in Lusaka today, Mwanza stated that it was not his association’s mandate to dictate which players should be featured in any particular game.

Mwanza’s remarks come barely few days after some soccer fans called on Renard to maintain the same team that beat Lesotho 4-0 last weekend.

He however expressed confidence Renard and called on the team to beat Sudan in order to brighten its chances of qualifying to the World Cup that will be hosted by Brazil next year.

Mwanza further urged the team to remain focused as they face Sudan this weekend saying the opponent is coming in the game with a bitter approach following their gruesome 3- 1 home defeat to Ghana.

This weekend, Zambia, who tops Group D with 10 points, takes on Sudan which has three points while bottom placed Lesotho with only one point hosts Ghana who is in second position with 9 points.

Meanwhile, Mwanza has called on all soccer fans not to throw objects on the pitch whenever the team scores.

He said soccer fans should adopt a better way of celebrating whenever the team scores rather than resorting to throwing water bottles and other objects onto the pitch.
