Three die in separate accidents
Chipata, June 11, 2013, ZANIS…Three people have died in separate road
traffic accidents along the Great East road.
Eastern province police commissioner Grace Chipalila confirmed the
incidents to ZANIS in Chipata today.
Mrs Chipalila said one female identified as Joyce Sakala died on the spot after
being hit by a Toyota Corolla saloon car registration number ALG 3616 and that her body
is lying at Saint Francis hospital in Katete awaiting a post-mortem.
The driver of the vehicle has been named as John Phiri, 26 , of Tasala compound in Petauke
who failed to negotiate a corner near Tambole village in Katete
district.
In the second incident, a cyclist died after being hit by a Mercedes
Benz vehicle registration number ALD 144 at Chiswa area along the
great east road.
Mrs Chipalila said the accident was due to over speeding.
She said the driver Standy Mwale of SOS village of Lusaka who was
driving a from Lusaka to Chipata hit Hameli Thole of Kalomodo village
around chief Madzimamwe’s area.
She said that the cyclist sustained injuries and died on the spot.
Meanwhile, Police said the third accident happened near Kawalala village in Sinda
District.
Mrs Chipalila said Fred Zulu, 64,of Chawama compound in Lusaka was driving a
Toyota Hilux registration number ABK 720 and hit Dominic Mutale of senior
chief Mbango’mbe’s area around 19:hours.
She said the accident occurred when the pedestrian tried to cross the road.
Mrs Chipalila said all the three drivers are in police custody.
