A suspected stray lion in Lwakela area in Senior Chief Kanong’ehsa’s chiefdom in Mwinilunga district is reported to have been terrorizing people and livestock.

North-western Province Police Commissioner, Eugene Sibote, confirmed the development in an interview with ZANIS in Solwezi today, saying the suspected lion yesterday killed six animals in Lwakela area.

Mr Sibote said police have since communicated with their counterparts at Zambia Wildlife Authority (ZAWA) in the province to help track down the beast before it becomes a danger to human lives.

He has, therefore, appealed to people in Lwakela area to be careful and report to either police or ZAWA once they spot the lion so that it can be traced back to where it came from or cropped.

However, ZAWA officials could not be reached for comment by press time.

Meanwhile, police in Solwezi have recovered a dump truck belonging to Kansanshi Mine Plc which is believed to have been stolen by unknown people.

Mr Sibote disclosed that the dump truck was abandoned by unknown people in Mujimanjovu’s area over the weekend after it ran out of fuel.

He said no arrests have been made so far and police are still investigating to establish how such a big truck found its way out of the mine site, adding that police are suspecting an inside involvement crime.
