Kapiri man murdered, body thrown in swamp

A 67-YEAR-OLD man of Lukanga fishing camp in Kapiri Mposhi has been murdered and his body thrown in the Lukanga swamp.

Police have since arrested 35-year-old Geoffrey Chisamba in connection with the murder of George Katongo.

Central Province police commissioner Standwell Lungu said in an interview in Kabwe that Mr Katongos body was found floating in the Lukanga swamp with a deep cut on the forehead.

Mr Lungu said police suspect that Mr Katongo was murdered between Sunday and Monday.

He said the deceaseds nephew, Charles Mumbi, of Kabosha reported the murder to the police and that the body was retrieved from the swamp around 09:00 hours on Monday.

And police in Kabwe have arrested a man of Kamushanga for allegedly burning a house belonging to another man of the same area.

Mr Lungu said police have charged Timothy Daka with arson for allegedly setting fire on Matthews Lungus property valued at KR1,141.

He said Mr Lungus house was torched between 24:00 hours on Sunday and 01:00 hours on Monday.

Mr Lungu said the suspect is in police custody and will appear in court soon.
