Opposition MMD weakens further as it loses 800 cadres in Mafinga District

Mafinga, May 29, 2013, ZANIS  — Mafinga District’s Thendele MMD ward councillor Stephen Singogo and 800 cadres have quit the opposition party with immeadiate effect.

And Muchinga Province PF vice Provincial Secretary Wilson Simwanza says the defection of councillor Singogo with more than 800 others is a sign of popularity for the ruling PF in the district.

Mr. Singogo said because of the continued squabbles in the former ruling party he is left him with no option but to resign from his position and from the party.

ZANIS reports that the renowned councilor confirmed the development in an interview  at Thendele yesterday.

Mr. Singogo said he has resigned from MMD to join the ruling Patriotic Front (PF).

Resigning with him are 800 other MMD cadres in the ward.

He said that the former ruling party is heading nowhere adding that he does not want to be part of a party that is disintegrating.

Mr. Singogo said party members in the ward and the entire district of Mafinga had been calling on the party national leadership to urgently go for a convention but unfortunately these calls have always fallen on deaf ears.

He said he has joined the PF because of the good leadership of President Michael Sata.

Mr. Singogo claimed that several other councillors in the district are planning to defect to PF.

Mafinga Constituency has 8 councillors all from the MMD with the area Member of Parliament, Catherine Namugala, also from the opposition MMD.

And Muchinga Province PF vice Provincial Secretary Wilson Simwanza says the defection of councillor Singogo with more than 800 others is a sign of popularity for the ruling PF in the district.

Mr. Simwanza said the party in the province has been growing steadily in the last few months adding resignation of councillor Singogo and others is a sign that the once strong hold for the MMD is now no more.
