Kasama joins uhuru celebrations
Kasama, May 25, 2013, ZANIS—Defence Minister Geoffrey Mwamba has described this year’s Africa Freedom Day as a unique event to the African continent.
Mr. Mwamba said the Uhuru day has helped many countries to transform their nations from political independence to economic emancipation were no citizens were regarded as second class in their own land.
The Minister, who is also Kasama Central Member of Parliament, was speaking in Kasama today during this year’s commemoration of the African Freedom Day and 50th Anniversary of the African Union.
He urged Zambians to reflect on the liberation struggle that freedom fighters sacrificed to make the country what it is today.
Mr. Mwamba said Government would ensure that security for every citizen is guaranteed for the country to achieve national development.
The Defence Minister reminded Zambians to be cautious of the freedom that the country is enjoying and safeguard it for future posterity.
Mr. Mwamba further said the PF government will continue to pursue the vision of the freedom fighters who sacrificed their lives for the betterment of the nation.
And a representative for former freedom fighters Abel Mulenga appealed to Government to address the plight of freedom fighters in the country.
Mr. Mulenga said government should consider allocating land to freedom fighters for them to become productivity.
