Police arrest woman for husband’s death .

Nakonde, May 25, 2013, ZANIS… POLICE in Nakonde district are holding a 41-year-old-woman to help them with investigations in a suspected murder case involving her husband .


This is the latest case of Gender Based Violence (GBV) recorded in the border town.


 ZANIS reports that the woman has been picked as a prime suspect following the sudden
death of her husband whose body was found in their matrimonial house after a domestic
quarrel.


Muchinga Province Police Commissioner Remy Kajoba confirmed the
development to Zambia News and Information Services (ZANIS) in Nakonde
today.


Mr. Kajoba said the incident happened on Wednesday in Mukoma village
of Chieftainess Nawaitwika’s area in Nakonde district.

Mr. Kajoba said the named woman of Mukoma village was arrested on
Wednesday to help the police with investigations in the death of her
husband who has been identified as Fred Chellah commonly known as
Popoma of the same village.


Mr. Kajoba explained that Mr. Chellah was found dead in his house
around 01: hours by people who heard him screaming for help and rushed
to the scene in an effort to rescue him.


Mr. Kajoba added that the suspect bolted and disappeared after
people forced open the door to rescue the deceased who was
crying for help.
Police say the late Chellah was found lying on the floor in the bedroom bleeding from the
nose and mouth and was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital.


Mr. Kajoba explained that the suspect was only arrested later in the
day at the bus station after police received a tip from members of the
public who saw her getting on a vehicle allegedly trying to escape to
Mpulungu where her parents live.


The police chief said preliminary investigations have revealed that
the deceased was strangled to death.

The deceased was buried yesterday after a post-mortem was conducted.
