Chief Executive Officer of the National Housing Authority (NHA) Don Zyambo has called on government and its cooperating partners to fully support the establishment of architects, engineers, surveyors, accountants and others in the constant practice of their professions.

Speaking when the Ministry of Home Affairs handed over eight houses to the Zambia Prisons Services in Lusaka today, Mr. Zyambo called on other ministries and institutions to recognise the good works of the authority and award it more contracts in design and build housing units.

He said being a government institution, the National Housing Authority was suitably positioned to offer design and construction services in the field of architecture, civil structural and electrical engineering among other services.

He said the authority would want to see a policy that will give some potion of housing development contracts to it.

Mr. Zyambo said the eight houses which were handed over were a product of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the National Housing Authority and the Zambia Prisons Service for the construction of 18 housing units.

He explained that NHA was still waiting for the Zambia Prisons Service to fulfil the MoU in totality so that the remaining ten housing units are constructed as well.

Mr. Zyambo said the authority was aware of the rising demand for housing in the country hence its commitment to do the best it could to help ease the challenge.
