–Maamba Collieries Limited (MCL) Head of Corporate Affairs Janardhan Lavu says a total of 873 residents in Sinazongwe district were last week screened and treated during the free medical screening and treatment camp.

The treatment camp was sponsored by Maamba collieries Limited in Sinazongwe district.

Mr. Lavu said the decision to sponsor a free medical camp at Maamba private school is in line with the company’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) in order to reach out to the underprivileged people in the communities.

Speaking at the official launch of the medical camp Mr. LAVU said Maamba Collieries is aware of the many services that need to be provided to the community in and around Maamba.

Mr. Lavu said a team of Doctors and medical team worked hard to ensure that all patients that turned up for treatment received attention and treatment.

This is the second medical camp within a short period following an earlier one conducted last month when 405 people were tested and treated of various ailments.

Receiving the donation of K20, 000 from Maamba collieries on behalf of the Ministers spouses club, Mrs. Scott appreciated the gesture saying the funds will go towards the construction of a mothers and relatives shelter.

Mrs. Scott said the shelter will allow expectant mothers and relatives attending to patients to be accommodated at the hospital particularly to serious cases that are referred from district level facilities.

During the medical camp Maamba collieries mobilized four medical doctors who included gynecologists, surgeons, dental and general body conditions.

The surgeons attended to 73 cases of mainly hernia and growths.

Gynecologists attended to 74 cases out of which five were referred to Monze General Hospital while the dentists saw 44 cases and most of them were referred to Maamba hospital for teeth extraction.
