—Western Water and Sewerage Company (WWSC) has embarked on a water meter installation exercise in Western province.

WWSC Managing Director Justin Liyali said about K3.4 billion has been spent on the exercise since it started in October 2012 to date.

Mr Liyali told ZANIS in an interview today that the exercise is done for accountability of water each household consumes monthly.

He has since advised consumers to report all cases of broken pipes and leakages to conserve water and enable efficiency and adequate water supply as customers will be required to pay their bills on time.

The exercise which was supposed to end this month is expected to end in August  as the company awaits more water metres from its suppliers.

And in the same interview WWSC Senior District Manager Stanley Simubali noted that as a water utility company they face challenges of vandalism and lack of commercial customers to support their day to day operations.

Mr Simubali disclosed that the company is about to put more bole holes in areas where people are experiencing inadequate water supply.
