Government has reiterated its commitment to ensuring that all the chiefdoms are connected to the national grid countrywide.

Western Province Minister, Obvious Mwaliteta, said this when he paid a courtesy call on Chief Kahare of the Nkoya speaking people at his Litoya  palace yesterday.

Mr Mwaliteta said government will continue supporting the welfare of all chiefs in order to see to it that the traditional leadership achieves the much needed attention so that their living standards are improved.

He said government has instructed Zambia Information, Communication and Technology Authority (ZICAT) to erect towers in all chiefdoms so that communication between traditional leaders and their communities and government can be maintained.

Mr Mwaliteta regretted that some of the traditional palaces were in bad shape and that government will take keen interest in rehabilitating and constructing new houses for chiefs.

He said the Patriotic Front (PF) government under the leadership of President Michael Sata is a pro-poor government that has a heart for alleviating poverty among the rural poor in the country.
