The Road Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA) has dismissed reports on an online publication suggesting that the agency has allowed bus operators to hike bus fares by 15 percent for all long distance routes.

This follows the meeting that the agency held with bus operators in Lusaka yesterday.

RTSA Chief Executive Officer Zindaba Soko dispelled the rumour saying no such thing came out of the meeting.

Mr. Soko told ZANIS in an interview in Lusaka today that the matter has since been surrendered to government to give policy direction.

He said once government makes a decision on the matter, the media will informed so that they disseminate whatever will be the outcome to the public.

Mr. Soko said it was too early and premature for people to start speculating on what was agreed in the meeting.

He described yesterday’s meeting as hot but said the two parties were able to reach an amicable conclusion on the matter.

The Zambian Watchdog this morning reported that passenger fares for all long distance routes from Intercity Bus Terminus in Lusaka had been increased by 15 percent.
