Mpulungu man defiles, impregnates twins

A fourteen year old girl today narrated before the Mpulungu magistrates’ court how she was repeatedly defiled and later impregnated by her step father.

This is in a matter in which Mike Simukanzye of Malisheni village in Mpulungu is facing trial for two counts of defiling twin sisters, who were also his step daughters.

After being impregnated by Simukanzye, the twin sisters were sent to Mbala General Hospital where they both gave birth by caesarean operation after they developed complications with their pregnancies due to the young age.

In the two counts, Simukanzye has been accused of defilement contrary to section 138 CAP 87 of the Laws of Zambia as read with Act number 12 of 2011.

According to the particulars of the offence, Simukanzye is accused of having had unlawful carnal knowledge of Meleby Namuyemba, 14 and Evalin Namuyemba, 14, on different unknown dates but between January and June, 2012.

Recounting the ordeal today, one of the twins, Meleby, told the court that Simukanzye used to lure her to the outskirts of the village where they have a family garden.

She said it was whilst they were by the garden that he repeatedly had sex with her on several occasions.

Meleby said her step father even warned her not to mention the sexual acts to anybody especially her mother.

She said she later discovered that she was pregnant, adding that the same thing had also happened to her sister.

The court adjourned the matter to April 30, 2013 for continued trial to allow Evalin, the other sister to also give evidence.

The matter is before Mpulungu magistrate Passmore Mweetwa.
