Outgoing Tanzania-Zambia Railways (TAZARA) Managing Director Akashambtwa Mbikusita-Lewanika has implored intellectuals and professionals in various fields to come forward and take up a strong spearheading role in national development.

Meanwhile, Management Development Division (MDD) Permanent Secretary at Cabinet Office Ndashe Yumba, said government appreciates the efforts IODF has taken in addressing organizational development in both public and private sectors in Zambia.

Delivering his keynote address at the ongoing IODF National Conference in Lusaka today, Mr. Lewanika said there was need for organization development in all social, economic and political organisations and institutions.

He explained that in a democratic dispensation such as that of Zambia, people and organisations need to be the voice of the voiceless in the political arena.

Mr. Lewanika further explained that professionals and intellectuals need to learn how to ensure that their institutions perform better through organization development.

And Institute of Organisation Development Facilitators (IODF) chairperson Daniel Lyatumba said government was a key partner in enhancing organizational development practice in the country.

Mr. Lyatumba said the institute would like to see government initiating more embracing organization development practices throughout its structure structures.

He explained that through the existing and appreciated levels of organization development, the institute would also like to see a culture of continuous learning and continuous self-renewal transcend throughout to the other line ministries.

Mr. Lyatumba stated that the institute would further like to see a more increased sense of identifying own problems and less reliant on international consultants to tell Zambians its own problems.

He noted that self-identified problems were easier to manage because they enable local organisations and government to identify suitable interventions to address them.

And speaking at the same function, Management Development Division (MDD) Permanent Secretary at Cabinet Office Ndashe Yumba, said the Patriotic Front (PF) government appreciates the efforts of IODF towards addressing organizational development in both public and private sectors in Zambia.

Mr. Yumba observed that both private and public sector organisations were facing numerous challenges in their quest to attain organizational goals and objectives.

He said this in a speech read for him by MDD Organization Design and Systems at Cabinet Office Acting Director, Patricia Munyoro.

Mr. Yumba attributed this to lack of adequate internal expertise and financial capacity to sufficiently drive the process of organisation growth and sustainability,
