—Pemba District Commissioner, Reginald Mugoba, says the Patriotic Front (PF) Government is determined to transform Pemba into a fully-fledged district with all the necessary infrastructure in place.

Mr Mugoba says the decision by President Michael Sata to grant Pemba a district status will bring about development which should not have been achieved if the area   remained an annex of Choma district.

He told ZANIS in Pemba that government wants to embark on an infrastructural development programme in which new housing units and the district administration block among others will be constructed.

Mr Mugoba said the bidding process for the proposed construction works has already commenced.

He said government will also upgrade the Pemba-Mapanza road to bituminous standard.

Mr Mugoba also disclosed that government has provided funds to improve the water reticulation system in the new district.

He said KR6 million has been given to the Southern Water and Sewerage Company to improve the supply of piped water to residents.
