The Barotse Royal Establishment (BRE) has set April 20th as the date for this year’s Kuomboka traditional ceremony of the Lozi people in western province.

Airtel Zambia Public Relations Officer Lisa Mulozi has observed that culture fosters national economic development through the promotion of the tourism sector.

rs. Mulozi said the company would therefore remain committed to supporting traditional ceremonies which she said have the potential to immensely contribute to employment creation and the overall economic growth of the country if preserved.

She was speaking in Lusaka today when she handed over a cheque worth KR269, 000 to the Kuomboka Kufuluhela committee towards the hosting of the 2013 Kuoamboka ceremony.

She said the donation was part of Airtel’s cooperate social responsibility.

And Kuomboka Kufuluhela Committee Chairperson Irene Muyenga thanked Airtel, who are the major sponsors of the ceremony along with MTN Zambia, Chimusoro Milling Company and Lafarge Cement among other companies.

Mrs. Muyanga disclosed that the committee has managed to raise over KR600, 000, which is more than the expected budget of KR500, 000 for this year’s ceremony.

The prestigious seven day Kuomboka ceremony will take place on the 20th of this month in Mongu.
