Youths advised to utilize fund

Kalabo, April  2, 2013, ZANIS ———Sport and Youth development deputy minister Chinga Miyutu has advised youths in the country to take advantage of the enabling environment created by the PF government by making  use of the Youth Development Fund .

Mr. Miyutu gave the advice when he addressed scores of Mapungu residents during a meeting held at Mapungu Primary School about 30 kilo meters  east of Kalabo boma  yesterday.

He told the gathering that the PF government has this year allocated 19 million kwacha rebased for the youths in the country, the money he said was already in the coffers awaiting to be given to  interested youth groups in the form of loans and grants.

Mr. Miyutu has urged the youths in Mapungu area to also take advantage of the available funds and venture into any forms of business to earn a living and contribute to the development of the country.

The Deputy Minister noted that it is disheartening to see many Zambian youths resort to excessive beer drinking instead of venturing in economic activities to better their lives.

He said though beer drinking is not an offence, he is concerned with the rate at which alcohol is being consumed by the youths in Zambia.

Mr. Miyutu said drinking beer as early as 08:00 hours will not only retard development in the country but also destroy the future of those affected.

And Kalimukwa Malimela, a Mapungu resident and one of the organizers of youth sports in Mapungu requested Mr. Miyutu to consider sponsoring sports activities in his constituency to help the youths develop sports and prevent them from alcohol abuse and other vices.

Mr. Miyutu pledged KR500 and donation of three footballs for the tournament.

Mr. Miyutu is on a familiarization tour of Kalabo district and his constituency  to acquaint  himself with challenges affecting the youths.
