——–Three opposition MMD councillors in Vubwi district have defected to the ruling Patriotic Front(PF).

The defectors say they have defected to the ruling party because they want to foster development in the newly created district.

The  trio are MMD Chiswa ward Councilor  Bonne Mushanga, who was also council chairman, MMD’s Thomas Mwale of Chimpanje ward and UPND’s Taulino Sakala of Mboza ward.

Mr. Mushanga said he ditched the former ruling party out of his own conviction and that of working with the government in order to bring development.

He said he had a problem working in the opposition adding  that  he was interested in ensuring  that development  was realized.

ZANIS reports that the defection took place at Vubwi Civic center during a meeting between Eastern Province minister Malozo Sichone and heads of government and PF officials, among others.

And in welcoming the defectors , Mr. Sichone  said the developmental efforts the PF government was bringing in the country has attracted more people to join the party.

He said government has set aside KR3million for town planning and kick start  the building of various modern infrastructure in Vubwi district.

He urged party official to continue recruiting new members and change the perception about the eastern province that people are resistant  to change.

Meanwhile PF provincial vice chairman Atan Mwamba assured the defectors of automatic adoption in their respective wards.

He called on the party members to embrace the defectors and work with them without discrimination.
