—–Chipata Mayor, Goodson Thole, has warned Chipata residents against building structures on top of hills to curb erosion   in the mountainous district.

Mr Thole was speaking during a second full council meeting held at the council chamber this morning.

He said the council will take action against those found wanting and that it will soon start demolishing all unauthorized structures in the district.

Mr Thole said building in the hills has caused a lot of environmental degradation in the district and the council will soon come up with an environmental policy to stop and punish the offenders.

The mayor has also advised the business community in the second class trading area to stop packing and offloading goods in big trucks along the small, narrow roads adding that this should be done from their designated warehouses to reduce road damage and traffic jam in the area.

Mr Thole has since appealed to civic leaders in the district to constantly hold developmental meetings in their wards to foster development in their respective wards.

Meanwhile the councillors have adopted proposals which were made by the District Development Coordinating Committee (DDCC) last week.

The DDCC proposed that all developmental projects in the district should be fully monitored from the start up to the end, and that relevant authorities should be consulted before the commencement of any project.
