Chieftainess Nkomeshya Mukamabo II says her appointment as House of Chiefs chairperson is a blessing to her chiefdom and the country as a whole.

The Chieftainess has also pledged to work  with all traditional leaders countrywide.

Chieftainess Nkomeshya becomes the first female House of Chiefs Chairperson since the establishment of the house 49 years ago.

And the traditional leader has disclosed that she has received overwhelming congratulatory messages from various sectors including the office of the Republican President.

Speaking at the graduation ceremony of 41 Lay counsellors who have been trained in Prevention of Mother to Child HIV and AIDS in Chalimbana today, the traditional leader said she is ready to take up her new position in the house and serve  the country by working closely with all chiefs and their subjects.

She said she will ensure that she visits all chiefdoms countrywide and interact with chiefs in order to know the challenges they are facing and be part of the solution.

And First Lady Christine Kaseba congratulated the chieftainess on behalf of the President on her appointment as Chairperson of the House of Chiefs.

Dr. Kaseba said the country is lucky to have a female house of Chiefs chairperson who she described as a leader dedicated to serving the community.

Hundreds of Chongwe residents who attended the Prevention of Mother to Child Lay Counsellor’s ceremony at Chalimbana University today cheered their traditional leader after hearing that she was the new house of chiefs chairperson.

This was the first public meeting the chieftainess was attending after being appointed as chairperson of the house of chiefs and many Chongwe residents seemed not to know about her new position.

And both the area Member of Parliament Silvia Masebo and UNAIDS Social Mobilisation Advisor Jacqueline Makokha who were also at the same function congratulated the chieftainess on her appointment.
