CATHERINE Phiri’s opponent in Saturday’s World Professional Boxing Federation (WPBF) bantamweight title fight Leslie Domingo is expecting a tough fight.
In an interview at Lusaka’s Kenneth Kaunda International Airport yesterday, Domingo admitted having little knowledge on the WPBF bantamweight champion.
Speaking through the interpreter Delima Jeephel who is also her trainer, Domingo said she is expecting a tough but good fight at Government Complex.
The 18-year-old said she has respect for Phiri.
Domingo has a record of five fights all winning through knockouts while Phiri also has five wins of which one is through knockout.
And Jeephel said Domingo is ready to face Phiri.
He said Domingo will give Phiri a good run for her money.
And Oriental Quarries Boxing Promotions operations manager Chris Malunga said arrangements for the fight have been finalised despite the shortfall of KR130, 000.
Malunga said they are confident of meeting the K405, 000 budget.
He appealed to well-wishers and business houses to come forward and contribute towards the hosting of the fight.
“For us the arrival of Domingo means that the fight is on. We have lined up several fights and we are encouraging fans to come and watch among them national heavyweight champion Francis ‘Galagata’ Zulu against a Congolese opponent,” Malunga said.
He said VIP tickets will fetch KR100 while the price of lower deck seats has been pegged at KR70 with the upper deck tickets going for KR50.
