Government will build palaces for all gazetted traditional leaders in the country, Minister of Chiefs and Traditional Affairs Nkandu Luo has disclosed.

Professor Luo said the construction of chiefs’ palaces will start this year.

She explained that although only a few chiefs will have new palaces constructed this year, the programme will be extended to other traditional leaders in future.

She told ZANIS in a telephone interview in Lusaka today that government already had funds in the national budget for the construction of palaces.

The minister noted that the Patriotic Front (PF) government would ensure that all the chiefs benefitted from the palace construction programme so that they live in standard palaces.

Prof. Luo has since called on all traditional leaders in the country to support the 2013 chiefs’ palace construction programme.

Recently, government announced that it will soon construct palaces for Chieftainess Kanyembo and chief Nshimba of Nchelenge district Luapula province.
