DEC nabs Lusaka man for trafficking in heroin

The Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) has arrested a 21 year old man of Lusaka for trafficking in heroin.

DEC Deputy Public Relations Officer Teresa Katongo said Philip Nkhoma of Bauleni compound was arrested for trafficking in 14 sachets of heroin which was wrapped in assorted papers.

Ms. Katongo said in a statement to ZANIS in Lusaka today that the commission has in the last five days arrested more than 30 people countrywide for unlawful cultivation and trafficking in cannabis.

She named those arrested as Arnold Chilo, a peasant farmer of Nyama village in Chibombo district for cultivating cannabis weighing 137.20 kilogrammes and Kahyata Lamba 36, also a peasant farmer of Litoya area in Kabompo district for unlawful cultivation of cannabis weighing 78 kilogrammes.

She said others arrested include Mary Chantu aged 36, of Kaloko compound in Ndola for trafficking in 51.2 kilogrammes of cannabis, Able Mwiinga 30, of the same village for trafficking in 36 kilogrammes of cannabis, Kebby Chipiko 39, a peasant farmer of Chipeko village in Chibombo for cultivating cannabis weighing 35.7 kilogrammes.

 

Ms. Katongo said all the suspects will appear in court soon.
