Youths in Mansa brave the rains to celebrate their day

Mansa, March 12, 2013, ZANIS ———— Hundreds of youths from all works of life in Mansa today braved the rains to celebrate the 2013 youth’s day celebrations.

Addressing the youths,  Luapula Province Minister Brigadier General Benson Kapaya commended the youths for braving the rains to commemorate their day.

General Kapaya said government has noted the historical imbalance between the growth in the labour force and the decline in employment opportunities especially for youths saying government’s main focus is to address the imbalance.

ZANIS reports that General Kapaya said this year’s youth day theme offers as an opportunity for the youths to venture into entrepreneurship for wealth and employment creation.  

He said youths in Zambia poses a challenge in the area of employment creation since they are the majority and called upon all stakeholders to join government in complimenting efforts in addressing youth unemployment.

He said the only answer to youths who cannot acess formal employment is through enterprise adding government has made available funds for youth empowerment and has put in place mechanisms to ensure that the youth fund reach the intended beneficiary.

He said he was happy that government allocated over KR11,000 youth funds last year and all the funds were disbursed to more than 400 youths in the country.

 He said to address the many challenges that youths are faced with in the education sector, government is building universities and youth resource centre  and upgrading colleges throughout the country.

And speaking during the commemoration, a youth, Chilombo Mwape commended government for putting youths in the country as a priority in its development agenda.

Mwape urged fellow youths to reflect on what they have done and rise to the occasion to contribute towards national development

Among the political parties that participated in the youth day celebrations were the Zambia National Independence Party (UNIP) and the Patriotic Front (PF).

Zambia today commemorated the youth day under the theme “Opportunity for the youths through enterprise”.
