Nsenga chief urges govt to ignore critics

Nyimba, March 5, 2013, ZANIS– -Senior chief Luembe of the Nsenga People of Nyimba district has advised the Patriotic Front-PF government to ignore armchair critics.

Senior chief Luembe cited critics such as some opposition political party leaders who are bent on derailing the government’s development agenda.

The traditional leader said the PF government has so far performed well and should remain focused on its developmental path adding that the establishment of new districts was a pointer to bringing services closer to the people.

Senior chief Luembe said he was saddened by the amount of bickering and political violence which has rocked the country leading to the deaths of innocent people.

He said some opposition political leaders were detracting the government’s attention of developing the country by engaging  in counter-productive issues such as name calling.

The chief said this when Eastern Province Permanent Secretary Bert Mushala who is on a familiarization tour of the district paid a courtesy call on him.

Chief  Luembe said  the involvement of chiefs as stake holders in issues of developing the country was gratifying as they understood better the needs of their subjects.

Meanwhile, senior chief Luembe has appealed to the courts of law not to entertain cases involving succession wrangles but leave them to the council of elders who are mandated to elect a new chief.

He lamented that the courts have usurped the powers of the council of elders who are the custodians of the customs and traditions in the selection of a chief.

The chief was referring to the succession wrangles which that have rocked the Ndake chiefdom.

The Chief has meanwhile commended the minister of Tourism and Arts  Sylvia Masebo for banning safari hunting as the local people were not benefitting from their wildlife resources.
