–A music board has called on government to compel studio owners to register their companies with the Registrar of Companies.

Zambia Music Copyright Protection Society (ZAMCOPS) Board Chairman, Edify Hamukale, observes that most of the studies are not registered with the Registrar of Companies.

“We want government to compel producers and studio owners to register their companies with the Registrar of Companies. As it stands now a lot of studios are not registered,” he said.

However, Mr Hamukali was optimistic that once the studio owners are compelled to register their companies, government will stand to benefit from the revenue paid to the Registrar of Companies.

Mr Hamukale said government will only be able to control publishers if studio owners are compelled to register.

He said currently there a lot of loopholes that make it difficult for government to regulate studio owners.

Mr Hamukale insisted that a good number of studies in the country were operating without documentation of registration.

Meanwhile, Mr Hamukale has appealed to producers to ensure that they register their companies.

He said publishers will only benefit more when they register their studios with the Registrar of Companies.
