DEC destroys 4441 kilograms of drugs

Mansa, February 22, ZANIS ———- The Drug Enforcement Commissioner (DEC) in Mansa has destroyed over 4400 kilograms of cannabis.

The destruction of the drugs which was witnessed by the members of the district joint operations committee, officials from the courts, the press and general public are those whose cases have been disposed off in the courts of law.

Drug Enforcement Commissioner Regional Commander Beatrice Mpanga disclosed that among those destroyed were 3880 kilograms of cannabis plants, 511 kilograms of lose cannabis and 49 kilograms of cannabis seeds.

Mrs Mpanga has since warned those involved in drug trafficking to desist from the vice saying the law will severely deal with them.

The Commander said there is an escalating rate of drug trafficking in the province and the DEC will ensure that all the perpetrators of drug trafficking are dealt with.

She has since urged the general public especially the youths to venture into fruitful business like farming adding that there is no value in trafficking in drugs saying drugs only destroy the lives of people.

According to Section 34 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic substance act chapter 96 of the laws of Zambia allows for the destruction of drugs for disposed off cases after a specified period.
