Daniel Munkombwe backs PF in Livingstone campaigns

Livingstone, February 16, ZANIS — Veteran politician Daniel Munkombwe has said the ruling Patriotic Front (PF) was the only credible party that can develop Zambia.

Mr. Munkombwe said opposition political parties were not capable of developing the country and were just bent of blaming the government of the day.

He said this is the reason he decided to help the PF in fostering development in the country.

Mr. Munkombwe said he, just like any other person, was free to support any party of his choice adding that he was exercising his democratic right to align himself with the PF.

He added that the MMD has become a stagnant political party while the PF was a progressive party.

Mr. Munkombwe said President Michael Sata and the PF mean well for Zambia.

He was speaking at a public rally in Dambwa area in Livingstone where Vice President Guy Scott received defectors from opposition MMD and United Party for National Development (UPND).

Meanwhile, Dr. Scott said Livingstone can only develop if people in the area vote for the PF candidate in the forthcoming parliamentary by-elections, Lawrence Evans.

He thanked the defectors for joining PF saying it was a wise decision they had made.

And Mr. Evans pledged to work hard and ensure that Livingstone is developed to the expectations of the people.

Meanwhile, Patriotic Front (PF) national chairperson Inonge Wina also urged the people of Livingstone to fight using the ballot box on February 28, 2013 parliamentary by-elections and desist from physical violence.

Ms. Wina urged the people in the area to elect a Member of Parliament of their choice through the ballot box.

She said violence was detrimental to national development adding that the ruling PF has always been preaching peace.

Ms. Wina condemned the opposition political parties for allegedly agitating violence.

She was speaking in Livingstone when she featured on Mosi-Tunya Radio programme dubbed good governance.

Ms. Wina has expressed confidence that PF candidate Lawrence Evans would scoop the seat in Livingstone.

She added that Mr. Evans was a credible candidate who has good leadership qualities.

Ms. Wina also said government puts women issues on top of its development agenda and urged women to form and register clubs in the country.
