Hut collapses on woman in Kalabo

A 49-year-old woman of Kashitu compound in Kalabo district of Western province narrowly escaped death after her hut collapsed and buried her following heavy rains this morning.

Catherine Nomai Monde was rescue from the debris of her hut that collapsed on her while she was sleeping around 02:00 hours today.

Ms. Monde was rescued at around 03:00 hours by two male passers-by Amon Kasoni and another one who was not named.  

Mr. Kasoni told ZANIS in Kalabo today that he and his colleague heard Ms. Monde shouting for help as they were passing-by the collapsed hut at around 03:00hours.

He said the duo rescued Ms. Monde who was fortunate enough not to sustain injuries in the accident.

Meanwhile, the Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) Church has since commenced building a temporal shelter Ms. Monde.

And Kalabo District Commissioner Ireen Mate, who visited the scene, contributed some funds and bought mats and fibres towards the construction of a shelter for Ms. Monde.
