——Lunga district Patriotic Front (PF) Political Secretary Katelema Chipulu has expressed happiness at the number of people joining the party in the
district.

Mr Chipulu said the current defections of opposition political leaders and members were a clear demonstration of the confidence people had in the ruling party following an all-embracing leadership style from the Patriotic Front.

Mr Chipulu was speaking to ZANIS in Lunga as he wrapped up his mobilization tour in the four wards and welcomed 50 opposition MMD members most of who were at leadership structures in the area.

He said the defectors from different opposition parties, some of whom had earlier defected from the patriotic front (PF) during the 2011 tripartite elections, were welcomed back and had further strengthened the party in the area.

“We had a lot of work, mostly consisting registration of new members starting with the sections in the four wards and ending with constituency,” he said.

And during his tour Mr Chipulu, who visited Lunga, Nkutila, Nsalushi and Nchenta wards, said the three traditional rulers, namely Senior Chief Kalima Nkonde, Chief Kasoma Lunga and Chief Bwalya Mponda had expressed willingness and pledged to support government in the quest for development to the people.

He said the traditional leaders were very pleased with the works by government and thanked President Michael Sata and his Cabinet for picking Lunga to be among the newly-established districts, a decision previous Presidents had not considered.

Mr Chipulu said the chiefs wanted communication and clearing of the canals, one of the greatest challenges that the people are currently facing to be urgently looked into.

Mr Chipulu implored on authorities to speed up the issue of lack of offices and accommodation for the newly appointed public service workers as well as consider the increased number of teachers and health workers who have been deployed for the area so as to effectively serve the people.
