Delays in release of salary grants worry Petauke unionized council workers

Petauke, February 12, ZANIS…….Unionized council employees in Petauke have expressed concern over government reluctance to release salary grants.

Eastern province Zambia United Local Authority Workers Union Secretary Andrew Mbewe  told ZANIS in Petauke that the delay in releasing the grants was leading to panic among the council employees because they were not told what led to delays in getting their salaries which were currently being released as grants to the local authority.

Mr. Mbewe said Governments’s pronounced to take over the paying of a certain division of the councils brought hope among the employees who were initially uncertain as to when they would get their monthly incomes.

“But the delays have again brought uncertainty among the unionized employees of the council,” he said.

Mr. Mbewe observed that the timely release of the grant would motivate the workers.

He appealed to the council workers to be calm as the union and the management was making efforts to address the situation.
