A joint operation team of Fisheries officers and Police have confiscated about 10 x 50 kilogrammes of dried fish bundles and 5kg of fresh fish worth about KR 4000 at the old market in Kaoma district of Western province today.

Kaoma District Fisheries Officer, Habeenzu Simamba said the confiscated fish will later be seized and disposed off through Kaoma Magistrate court.

Mr Simamba said the patrols will be intensified help to ensure that the fishermen and fish traders adhere to the provisions of the fishing ban that is in effect up to the end of this month.

He said CAP 200 of the fisheries ACT prohibits illegal fishing activities and trading in fish so as to allow the fish to breed undisturbed.

Mr Simamba has however, appealed to all fish traders in the district and other surrounding areas to venture into other business activities during this period so that they don’t come into conflict with the law.
