Government will this year start building more houses for Defence personnel in Chipata and Mambwe districts in Eastern Province.

Defence Deputy Minister Davies Mwila disclosed this yesterday when he called on the outgoing Eastern Province Permanent Secretary Emmanuel Mwamba saying his ministry will start the construction works in the second phase of building houses for defence forces which the ministry of defence is currently undertaking in Lusaka, Kabwe and Mufulira under phase one.

Mr Mwila said phase one of house constructions would be completed by mid year after which phase two is expected to start.

And Mr Mwila has disclosed that government will soon complete the harmonization of salaries of the defence and other security wings.

He also observed that police officers in Mambwe district are facing challenges in carrying out their duties due to a shortage of transport in the district.

He noted that the Officer-in Charge in Mambwe district has no vehicle, a situation he described to be making the operations of the police less effective and difficult.

Mr Mwila also noted some disparities in the salaries and said government has taken steps to harmonize and will be concluded soon.

He also observed that the people of Mambwe district have been complaining about the state at which road rehabilitation works are being carried out on the Chipata/Mfuwe road.

But Mr Mwamba said that government has engaged Sable Construction Company into discussions as the company has been observed to have been behind schedule by 13 months.

He however said that Sable would be compelled to meet its contractual obligations.
