Luapula Province Health Director Peter Bwalya says the Province is on the right track to bring maternal deaths to zero.
Dr. Bwalya disclosed that in the second quarter, the Province only recorded 7 cases of maternal deaths as compared to 20 in the first quarter.
The Provincial Health Director has attributed the reduction in the cases to measures which the Ministry of Health has put in place to ensure zero cases of maternal deaths.
He explained that the ministry worked closely with Traditional leaders in the Province to reduce cases of maternal deaths.
ZANIS reports that Dr. Bwalya indicated that the involvement of traditional leaders and religious leaders in the elimination of maternal mortality has proved effective.
