A 50-YEAR-old Chinese national is battling for his life in Solwezi General Hospital after being shot at by suspected criminals who went away with more than K24, 000.

The incident happened on Sunday around 02:00 hours along Kabitaka road in Solwezi.

North Western Province deputy commissioner of police Paul Achume identified the victim as M’chao Wengang of Sondashi compound.

He explained that the victim was shot on both thighs and sustained gunshot wounds.

‘’In the process, the criminals went away with K23,000 and 500 Chinese Yuan bringing the total to K24,530,’ Mr Achume said.

He said no arrest has been made adding that the victim is admitted in Solwezi General Hospital where she is receiving medical treatment while investigations have been launched.

Meanwhile, a 30-year-old man has died while nine others were injured after a big tree fell on the roof of a house where they were watching TV.

Mr Achume confirmed the incident which occurred yesterday around 20:00 hours at Kalumbila minerals limited and identified the deceased as Machai Kachaka.

He said the tree fell due to strong winds which before the rains started.

He said Kachaka and the other survivors are security guards for Cobra Security based at Kalumbila Minerals Limited.

‘’Those who were injured are Patrick Phiri aged 30 who sustained a fracture on the ankle of the right leg and John Kabwe aged 27 who sustained a deep cut on his head.

The duo is admitted at Kalumbila Meryberg Mine Hospital and are likely to be transferred to Ndola Central Hospital.

‘’Other victims who were not admitted and out of danger are Oliver Mulenga aged 30, Sydney Chivunda aged 31, Stanley Lwanga aged 24, Clement Musovu aged 22, Mizinga Nkulu aged 28, Francis Bwalya and Tolland Haninda aged 28 and 27 respectively,’’ he said.
