Man beaten to death for stepping on friend’s toe

A 52 year-old man of Choma’s Chandamali compound died yesterday after he was beaten by four people using a stick two days ago.

Levy simbaliya was beaten by these four suspects at a drinking place when he allegedly stepped on the toes of one of the suspects.

The four beat him using a stick and attempts to seperate them only invited further punishment on the friend of the deceased who is currently admitted to Choma general hospital with injuries.

The deceased’s friend has been identified as Timothy Nyoni of Batoka area in Choma while identities of the suspects have been withheld.

And Southern Province Police Commissioner Bonny Kapeso says the police have already arrested and detained all the four suspects who are also wanted by Mazabuka police for other offences.

Mr. Kapeso says the matter was only reported yesterday and police took both victims to the hospital where Levy Simbaliya later passed on while his colleague still remains hospitalised.

‘He says the four suspects will soon appear in court for murder.
