Government says the health insurance scheme is now law and that all stakeholders should work together to implement it.

Speaking in Kabwe during labour day celebrations , Minister of Health, Chitalu Chilufya said the insurance scheme is aimed at providing workers’ health cover during and after leaving employment.

Dr. Chilufya said as a way to provide universal health coverage, government is putting in place measures that are aimed at providing health services to all citizens regardless of their standing in society.

He said a health and motivated workforce is key to national development.

And Dr. Chilufya said government is working at recapitalising industries like Mulungushi textiles, among others so that more jobs can be created in the province especially amongst the youths.

And Central Province permanent secretary Chanda Kabwe disclosed that government has released One point Six million kwacha towards the dismantling of arrears for retirees in Central province.

Mr. Kabwe said Government will further release 2.7 million kwacha in the second quarter which will go towards dismantling employees’ settling allowances and other outstanding balances.

Meanwhile, Zambia Congress of Trade Unions Representative Levy Chimfwembe pledged the organisation’s support in the effective implementation of the National health insurance scheme.

And Maria Mulenga who spoke on behalf of the youths called on political leaders not to fuel division amongst employees saying it negatively affects the development of the country.
