Minister of Lands Jean Kapata has called on government ministries and departments to start applying for title deeds following a directive by Cabinet.

Ms. Kapata says Cabinet last week wrote to all government departments and Ministries to get title for all land where there are government properties such as hospitals, schools, council offices and government houses.t

She says this will help take stock and curb encroachment on government land.

The Minister says all government institutions should start applying for title through the Surveyor General’s office so that titles can be issued under the National Titling program.

Meanwhile, Ms. Kapata is impressed with the utilization of the 1.5-million-kwacha Land Development Fund in Mwansabombwe District where land has been surveyed, access roads opened up in new areas where construction of houses is now underway.

Speaking after touring construction works of Mwansabombwe district staff houses and administration block in Luapula province, Ms. Kapata however noted the need for the Zambia National Service to move back after the rains and clear the roads which now have over-grown grass.

And Mwansabombwe District Commissioner Victor Kasuba said steady progress has been made on the construction works.

Mr. Kasuba is however saddened that local contractors given the projects have abandoned the sites despite having been paid 50 percent project funds.
