Paramount Chief Mpezeni of the Ngoni people in Eastern Province has banned holding of unauthorised political rallies in his chiefdom.
Speaking when he addressed over 100 village headmen and indunas at his palace , the Paramount Chief said he had banned unauthorised rallies in his territory because some political leaders lack respect for traditional leaders.
He noted that some politicians had a tendency of insulting chiefs whenever they held political rallies, a move he described as painful and disrespectful.
ZANIS reports that the traditional leader charged that such behaviour is what led him to call for a meeting with his subordinate chiefs and headmen.

Chief Mpezeni has also urged Zambians to vote wisely in the August 11 polls and respect the outcome of the elections.
And Senior Chief Nzamane said traditional leaders will remain non-partisan but will always support the government of the day.
Meanwhile, Eastern Province Permanent Secretary Chanda Kasolo who was also in attendance said government will continue to work with chiefs in order to uplift the living standards of the people.

Mr. Kasolo said he will ensure that the construction of the palace for paramount chief Mpezeni is completed before the end of the year.
