The MMD splinter group has elected former Lunte MP Felix Mutati as party president at a convention which is currently taking place at the Mulungushi Rock of Authority in KABWE.

But MMD acting National Secretary Rueben Sambo has described the convention in Kabwe at which Mr Mutati has been elected as illegal.

And former Muchinga MP Howard Kunda has told ZNBC news in a telephone interview that Mr. Mutati went through unopposed as party leader.

Mr. Kunda who is also former MMD National Youth Chairman said the convention is this afternoon proceeding to elect members of the national executive committee.

He said the members are happy that former President Rupiah Banda is also in attendance.

Reverend Sambo says Mr. Kunda was expelled from the MMD and does not have the legitimacy to represent the party in anyway.

He said Dr. Nevers Mumba is the legitimate MMD President as he was elected for the period of five years in line with the party’s constitution.
