A TEACHER of Lusaka’s Chawama compound has pleaded guilty to stealing a suit in Edgars Store at Levy Shopping Mall valued at over K2,000.

Tebby Chilekwa, 29 of unknown house number in Chawama, is facing one count of theft contrary to the Laws of Zambia.

It is alleged that Chilekwa on December 16, 2015 in Lusaka, stole a suit, a shirt and a neck tie altogether valued at K2, 158, the property of Edgars Stores Company Limited.

Taking plea before magistrate Kunda Tantameni, Chilekwa admitted the charge but explained that he had no intention to steal the suit as he was only trying it on before he could purchase it.

And according to a police report from Lusaka Central Police, Chilekwa was captured on CCTV and told to pay for the suit but that he didn’t have money.

The accused, according to the report, failed to give police officers a satisfactory explanation, which led to his arrest and charge.

The matter comes up today for facts and sentencing.
