7 RTSA OFFICERS NABBED OVER THEFT

SEVEN Road Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA) officers have been apprehended in Kabwe along with a Tanzanian clearing agent to assist with investigations over the theft of security papers.
Six of the RTSA officers picked up are from Kabwe while, the other one is from Solwezi in North Western Province.
The seven had been detained at different police stations.
Central Province Commissioner of Police Lombe Kamukoshi confirmed in an interview and that, police were still investigating the matter.

Ms Kamukoshi said if the officers are found to have committed the offence, they will likely be charged with theft by servant.
She said preliminary investigations indicated that the offences were believed to have occurred between May and October this year and that, the clearing agent was picked up from Nakonde in Muchinga Province.
She said police were trying to ascertain the value of the security papers.
However, she could not give further details until investigations were concluded.
Some sources talked to said the case was reported to the anti fraud unit after a docket was opened and that, the security papers are mostly used when issuing licences.
The source said given the current scenario, it was possible for an officer to issue various licences to motorists without accounting for the money.
