Mutati sees no hope for Zambia in K53.14bn national budget

Former Commerce Minister Felix Mutati has observed that the announced the 2016 K53.14 billion national budget does not give hope Zambia will cross over the current economic crisis.

Mr. Mutati thinks that the Finance Minister Alexander Chikwanda has presented a routine budget which has no impact on the ordinary people of Zambia.

He has told Qfm News that this is because the budget has missed the point of what was supposed to done to enable diversify the country’s economy.

Mr. Mutati is of the view that the 2016 national budget should have focused on issues that are slowing down efforts to diversify the Zambian economy given the current economic crisis.

He has expressed doubt the continued tightening of the fiscal policy as outlined in next year’s national budget will fuel diversification of the economy.

Mr. Mutati thinks that the 2016 national budget should have had measures to deal with the mining sector as opposed to benefiting road contractors more.

He says he therefore finds the 2016 national budget to be lukewarm.
