Zahara's new album goes gold in less than 20hours

SINGER Bulelwa “Zahara” Mkutukana is sick and tired of haters!

In her third studio album titled Country Girl, she has a song titled Izintaba, where she talks about the pain caused by her haters and the comments they make about her life.

The album has already reached gold status after it was released on Friday.

The album was in the top three on iTunes within a day of it’s release.

The title of her album, Country Girl, is an ode to her rural background upbringing.

The song is in isiXhosa and can be loosely translated as: Hearing my name, they thought I’ll leave it alone, all the mountains are falling on me from all sides, I’m shaking . . .

Album producer, Robbie Malinga, said he cried when Zahara brought the song to him.

“This song brought tears to my eyes because I could see how much she was affected by everything that has been said about her.

“She’s young and trying to make a living off music.

“She’s on a journey of discovery and is growing as she goes, so she’s bound to make mistakes like everyone else,” Robbie said.

Zahara had a media listening session at Universal Music Studios in Rosebank, on Wednesday, to give the media a sneak peak into what her album sounds like.

The album was released on Friday and TS Record label co-owner, TK Nciza, bragged that they’re dealing with “an overwhelming number of pre-orders”, hence the media copies would only be sent on Friday, after they’ve established the demand for the album by the industry.

On this album, Zahara’s hoarse voice and strong guitar elements still create her signature sound. Her songwriting skills, musicality and the flow of the music is mature.

Her voice is also controlled and nicely directed, with songs like the traditional Xhosa wedding song, Ntombenhle, being remade and having commercial appeal. Other songs to look out for include Ubomi Bam, Okutsha and Bendi Wrongo.
