A brace from Collins Mbesuma and a goal each from Bongolethu Jiyiaya and Sibusiso Masina ensured that Mpumalanga Black Aces maintain their undefeated run this season as they thumped Maritzburg United 4-1 at the Kanyamazane Stadium in Nelspruit on Saturday.
Maritzburg were hoping to register their first victory of the season under new coach Clive Barker, but this still remains a dream.
On the other hand, for Aces it was all about maintaining their good form this season and things worked according to plan as they won the match after coming back from a goal down.
It was Maritzburg United that opened the scoring with a goal that came from Ashley Hartog which gave the KwaZulu-Natal side the lead in the 30th minute.
Mpumalanga Black Aces kept on pressing for an equaliser as the match wore on. Their efforts finally paid off as Jayiya found the back of the net with an assist from Mbesuma in the 40th minute.
What goes around comes around and this proved true for Mbesuma as he netted his fourth goal of the season to give the Mpumalanga Black Aces a 2-1 lead in the 45th minute.
In the second half United looked determined to find an equaliser but things didn’t work out for them.
In the 60th minute Mbesuma extended the lead for Mpumalanga Black Aces as he scored a beautiful goal through a penalty.
In the dying minutes of the match it was substitute Masina who ended the hopes of Maritzburg United as he netted the fourth goal taking the score to 4-1.
