THE Kitwe Magistrate’s Court heard that a woman allegedly stabbed her nephew with a bottle because he stopped her from beating her mother.

In this case, Melba Banda, 29, of house number 9230 Chimwemwe, Kitwe, who appeared before magistrate Prosper Mwila last week, is facing one count of unlawful wounding.
Particulars are that on August 15, this year, in Kitwe, Banda unlawfully wounded Abel Banda aged 19.
When the matter came up for commencement of trial, Banda testified that on the material day, he went home and found his aunt arguing with his grandmother.
He narrated that Banda then started beating her mother (complainant’s grandmother), but he managed to rescue her and took her to his sister’s place.

“The following day, I went to my aunt’s [accused] place to get clothes for my grandmother, but my aunt was upset with me.
“She got a broken bottle and stabbed me on my back. She also got a glass from the table which she broke and she hit me with it and I sustained deep cuts on my back and face,” he said.
The court heard that the matter was later reported to the police where the accused was arrested and charged.
