Mpika woman knocked down, driver attempts to escape

A 29-year- old woman of Mpika District in Muchinga Province died in a road traffic accident that occurred last night around 19:00 hours along the Great North Road.

Muchinga Province Deputy Police Commissioner Peter Bubeshi confirmed the accident to ZANIS in an interview in Chinsali today.
Mr. Bubenshi identified the deceased as Elizabeth Kunda, an employee of Zambia College of Agriculture (ZCA) in Mpika District who died on the spot after being hit by a speeding Land cruiser.

The Deputy Police Chief said the driver was apprehended by on-lookers when he attempted to run away and is currently in custody.

The body of Kunda is lying in Mpika District Hospital mortuary awaiting post-mortem and burial.

In another development, a Fuso truck registration Number ARD 6972 careered off the Nakonde /Mbala road killing one passenger on the spot while two others sustained serious injuries.

Deputy Police Commissioner Peter Bubeshi said the accident happened around 23:00 hours last night.

Mr Bubeshi said the vehicle involved was being driven by Kenneth Simbeye, 36, who is currently on the run.

The Deputy Police Chief explained that the Fuso truck lost control and hit into a bridge which is under construction.
