Police have arrested a man on suspicion of child neglect following reports that a person tried to sell a baby in a shopping arcade.
A member of the public said they were approached by a man with a three-month-old baby boy in a pram at Manchester’s Barton Arcade at 2.30pm yesterday.

The 28-year-old man reportedly offered to sell the baby to him.

Police were yesterday trying to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.

“This is extremely unusual and at this time we are trying to establish the full circumstances of the situation, but most importantly check on the welfare of the child,” said Sergeant David Henshall of the Greater Manchester Police.
Police said the boy is safe and well and a 28-year-old man is in custody on suspicion of child neglect.

Detective Inspector Liam Boden said: “We would like to thank members of the public and the media for their assistance in publicising the appeal earlier today.

“We have now arrested a man on suspicion of child neglect and will be questioning him in relation to the incident as we try to establish the full circumstances.”
