360 thousand kwacha has gone missing from a named account held by Mazabuka Municipal Council.
And the Citizens Forum in Mazabuka District has called on relevant government investigative the missing money.
In a statement to ZANIS in Mazabuka, Citizens Forum Mazabuka branch Coordinator Joseph Mfula said his organization is dismayed with revelations that some officials have allegedly failed to account the missing money.
Mr. Mfula stated that there is need for government investigative wings to swiftly move in and establish how the money went missing from the Bank account.
When contacted for a comment, Mazabuka Municipal Council Town Clerk Wisdom Bwalya welcomed the call by the Citizens Forum to institute investigations into the matter, saying doing so will help put the matter to rest.
Mr. Bwalya said as far as he is concerned, his conscious is clear because at the time the funds allegedly went missing in 2012 he was not in office.
During a full council meeting held in the chamber last week, some councillors took management to task over the missing funds.
Mazabuka Central Ward Councilor Lloyd Buumba, who served as Mayor during the same period, revealed that the funds were realized from the sale of commercial plots in his ward.
